Character name: Sayaka Miki
Age: 14
Canon: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Wraith A
Canonpoint: After her death in the Wraith Arc
Background: The Wraith arc is slightly different from the regular canon. Sayaka does not know Madoka Kaname as Madoka does not exist in this reality. Most of canon continues on the same, however the Magi team is Homura, Sayaka, Mami and Kyouko.
She contracts to have Kyousuke's ability to play the violin restored. She still becomes distressed when Kyousuke and Hitomi develop feelings for one another. However she does not fall into despair the same way - instead she is overwhelmed by Wraiths and they devour her magic and emotions. Sayaka breaks free of their hold with one final burst of energy and is taken by the Law of Cycles before she becomes a witch.
wiki.
Personality: In any ordinary Magical Girl anime, Sayaka Miki would be the ideal magical girl. She's a girl born and bred for the pursuit of justice, loyal to a fault and practically made of determination. Friendly, bold, upbeat and eager to please, it's hard not to be endeared to a girl that's brimming with energy in all she does. Often bringing some much needed levity to the darker situations, quick to tease and joke even in the most dire of situations, Sayaka gives everything her all and expects nothing in return. She's the first to declare how ridiculous or tropey certain things are and laugh at herself. Sayaka isn't particularly bright, but she's dedicated - she works hard in school to make up for a lack of natural talent and works hard to make up for her shortcomings.
Unfortunately, this being a Gen Urobuchi world, Sayaka is merely a character who was destined to break under the weight of reality. She makes a contract in an attempt to circumvent the cruelty she's told Magical Girls possess, and she breaks under the impossible standards she sets for herself. As Homura once said, the positive traits to Sayaka's personality make for a dangerous combination in a magical girl. Her brashness makes her quick to put herself into dangerous situations without realizing it, her kind heart makes her self-sacrificial, and her dedication to her ideals and uncompromising nature makes her brittle in the face of things that don't bend to her reality.
While making light of situations is a grace of hers, Sayaka is often self depreciating. She hides any struggles behind a smile, and though she's quick to open up about her troubles once prodded, she plays things close to the chest and carriers on a brave front for as long as she can.
Sayaka would give her friends the shirt off of her back if she thought they needed it. She'd do anything to ensure a smile returned to the face of someone crying, and would leap into danger without a second thought if it meant saving someone else. Sayaka is the personification of loyalty, justice, and compassion - she cares so deeply about everyone around her that it's actively destructive for her. Sayaka is incredibly loyal and determined to take care of her friends, no matter what the cost to herself. However, even if she doesn't go in expecting thanks or reward, Sayaka is very much a person who thrives on the attention and approval of others. To be a heroine who only acts in the shadows is only something she enjoys in theory.
Sayaka has a streak of brashness that's difficult to ignore. This, combined with her judgemental nature, can make her utterly impossible to deal with. For instance, there are timelines where Sayaka's impression of Homura is that she's dangerous and untrustworthy, which leads to Sayaka becoming aggressive and unwilling to listen to Homura. However, there are also timelines where she only views Homura as a little awkward and is eager to extend her hand in friendship. Sayaka's receptiveness to a person often comes down to how they first seem to her.
She isn't always one for thinking before she acts, but when she acts her mind is absolutely made up. Sayaka is a runaway train that no one can stop once she sets herself down a path, only she can change her own mind. While she's not as vocal about her insecurities as Madoka is, Sayaka obsesses with all of the things she can't do. Her failures weigh so heavily on her mind that they practically drown her, and she attempts to overcompensate for it in impossible ways.
As said before, when things don't meet her expectations Sayaka struggles to come to terms with this. In Another Story, after Hitomi tells Sayaka that she also has a crush on Kyousuke, Sayaka runs into her acting strangely. Sayaka is uncertain if she is possessed by a witch or not but chooses to walk away, leaving Hitomi in danger. Being confronted with her own selfishness utterly breaks Sayaka, leading to her believing herself to be unworthy of being a magical girl and believing that she should die. This is also evident in the timeline the anime follows as well, as Sayaka finds out the truth about her body and believes herself to be a zombie and has a similar breakdown.
Sayaka's unbending nature is by far her biggest downfall. Once Sayaka makes her judgement of you, it's hard to change her mind. Going off of a combination of gut feelings and first impressions doesn't always lead to the best understanding of a person. She's quick to spurn people she feels are unworthy and don't fit into her idealized view of the world. Sayaka is quicker to start a conversation than her friends are, but she's also quicker to pick a fight as well.
Despite her associated element being water, Sayaka is not terribly adaptable. She can be extremely single minded and deal in absolutes, believing herself to either be a paragon of good or a vessel for evil depending on her mindset. It isn't to say that she can't adapt, as in Rebellion Story she's shown to have come to terms with her existence of a Witch, however she must believe that she is on the path of righteousness. Otherwise, she stumbles and falls.
All of this being said, Sayaka is an incredibly loyal friend. Her shortcomings are more than made up for by determination, passion, and a never-ending well of love and support for the people she cares for.
Wish: "To tell the truth, I'm a little upset with how things turned out. I just wish... I could've fought with them one more time, y'know? If I were just a little stronger..."
With her soulgem finally burned out and her ability to keep fighting extinguished, Sayaka Miki succumbs to her own weakness and is turned over to the Law of Cycles -- only Kyuubey is there instead. Defeated and exhausted, wanting nothing more than to return home and be with her friends, Sayaka says the first thing that comes to mind. The wish is fueled by entirely selfish desires - she wants to be with her friends and continue living, continue protecting people, continue being the heroine - and the wording is careless, she doesn't expect to be granted another miracle considering how high the cost is, and the words are intermingled with tears.
She doesn't expect it to be granted. But Kyouko would be proud that it's a wish for herself, not another one for the sake of someone else.
Passive ability: Enhanced Strength. This stems from Sayaka's desire to keep fighting and to not succumb to the weaknesses in her heart. Sayaka will now have a passive strength boost which is going to be tricky to control as she can't turn it off, she just has to learn how to manage it. So think a body builder's strength in the body of a fourteen year old girl. It will require a significant amount of care to control.
Active ability: Heroic presence. Sayaka's presence near another Magi will basically give them one extra hit point. They can handle one more hit than they normally could have. It's not immortality and it doesn't mitigate damage dealt, it just gives them the will to continue fighting even if their body wants to give up. To activate it she has to physically touch another Magi and it is active for the duration of the fight, and drains her soulgem according to the amount of injuries they take before the fight is over.
This stems from the desire to return to her companions and continue fighting with them for as long as they can.
Weapon: Combat Bracers.
Sample: test drive.
